NCLM Praises Congressional Passage of American Rescue Plan

(RALEIGH, N.C.) – N.C. League of Municipalities Executive Director Paul Meyer released the following statement Wednesday regarding congressional approval of the American Rescue Plan.

“The American Rescue Plan given final approval today by Congress offers needed assistance for North Carolina’s cities and towns after many saw tax and utility payments drop last spring and summer, and as all face uncertainty ahead regarding economic recovery.

“Cities and towns play a key role as builders of infrastructure, and those investments ripple throughout local economies. The direct assistance offered in the American Rescue Plan will go a long way in allowing North Carolina municipalities to continue in that role and make investments that promote recovery, job growth and uplift local businesses and residents.

“NCLM thanks President Biden, Congress and the North Carolina congressional delegation members who supported this needed package of assistance to individuals, businesses and local and state governments. We look forward to and are already working on ways to assist our membership to ensure that these dollars help North Carolinians in the broadest ways possible.”
